The province is reporting 3,265 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 29 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 20 new cases. Thirty cases were resolved.
There are five new cases in St. Thomas, four in Dutton-Dunwich and one in West Elgin.
The death toll sits at 76 since the pandemic began.
Three hundred and sixty-seven of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 44 cases still active.
There are 150 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 45 in Woodstock, 40 in St. Thomas, 14 in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg, six in Aylmer, Dutton-Dunwich and Zorra, four in Bayham and Norwich, three in Blandford-Blenheim and SW Oxford, two in Central Elgin and West Elgin and one in Malahide.
There are no active cases in long-term care or retirement homes.
Nine individuals are hospitalized, two of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.4 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and sixteen of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 36 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,134.
Through April 17 – the latest data available from the health unit – 32,229 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 30,158 of those having received their first dose.
There are 70.9 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 190.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 102.8 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 80.1 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 134 tests on Sunday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 41 last Wednesday.
