The province is reporting 3,871 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 41 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 19 new cases with the same number resolved.
There are two new cases in Aylmer and Central Elgin with one each in St. Thomas and Bayham.
The death toll sits at 76 since the pandemic began.
Three hundred and eighty of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 39 cases still active.
There are 141 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 43 in Woodstock, 27 in St. Thomas, 21 in Tillsonburg, 11 in Ingersoll, eight in Aylmer, six in Central Elgin and Dutton-Dunwich, five in Bayham, four in Blandford-Blenheim, three in Norwich and SW Oxford, two in West Elgin and one each in Southwold and Zorra.
There are no active cases in long-term care or retirement homes.
Nine individuals are hospitalized, two of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and seven of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 27 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,175.
Through April 17 – the latest data available from the health unit – 32,229 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 30,158 of those having received their first dose.
There are 66.7 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 185.0 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 69.4 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 106.8 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 194 tests on Tuesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 41 last Wednesday.
