Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe Career and Employment Services St. Thomas are shining a light on 9 amazing individuals, businesses, organizations and support staff that have stepped up and made a positive difference in our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
While their family run business has been able to weather the pandemic, Kim and Martin Miller, owners of Miller’s Valu-mart in Aylmer, have gone above and beyond to help less fortunate merchants in the community.
For example, shopping locally whenever possible, including the purchase of Christmas gifts for staff as a token of appreciation for those front-line workers.
Being deemed an essential service at the onset of the pandemic by the provincial government, the Millers faced added pressures on a daily basis. From ensuring the safety of staff and customers to maintaining adequate stock on the shelves of their Valu Mart to meet the needs of shoppers
It meant for the Millers and their staff their pre-pandemic routined not longer was applicable in many cases, even down to dealing with ever-changing government restrictions.
In spite of the obstacles and adapting on the fly, the Millers are grateful for how their employees stepped up to face the challenge and for the ongoing support of the community.
The Millers say they are truly honoured to be part of Unsung Heroes Day and Martin thanks myFM for “being there every step of the way.
You are very community-driven, as well. And, that’s important to us.”
