Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe Career and Employment Services St. Thomas are shining a light on 9 amazing individuals, businesses, organizations and support staff that have stepped up and made a positive difference in our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Running a small business during the COVID-19 pandemic is anything but easy. But for Markus Hawco, owner of the Ice Box in St. Thomas, it’s all he has ever known.
The Ice Box opened their doors to the public for the first time in July of 2020, roughly 5 months into the global pandemic.
And since day one, the Ice Box has committed to giving back to the community in the form of monthly and weekly donations to local charities and organizations, and also pledging 5% of all profit to the Rail Works Coalition.
The St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, Inn Out of the Cold, and Pearce Williams are just some of the local groups that have benefited from Hawco’s generosity.
But with the local COVID-19 vaccine roll out now underway, Hawco decided he wanted to do more.
Hawco says that opening and running a business during a pandemic doesn’t come without its challenges, but if you surround yourself with the right people, it’s hard to fail.
He adds that without his staff at the Ice Box, none of the success would be possible.
