The province is reporting 1,135 new COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths this morning while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 10 new cases with 17 resolved.
There were two new cases in St. Thomas.
The death total is 80 since the pandemic began.
Seven hundred and sixty-one of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 56 cases still active.
There are 74 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 23 in Woodstock, 12 in St. Thomas, eight in Tillsonburg and Norwich, seven in Zorra, four in Aylmer and West Elgin, two in Bayham, Central Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim and one each in SW Oxford and Ingersoll.
Fourteen patients and five staff at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital have tested positive.
Five individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 33.3 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Forty-nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 13 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,607.
Through May 15 – the latest data available from the health unit – 75,780 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 73,226 of those having received their first dose.
There are 35.0 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 86.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 30.8 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 53.4 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 146 tests on Tuesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 16 on Friday.
