The province is reporting 1,273 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths this morning while Southwestern Public Health is reporting four new cases with 16 resolved.
The death total is 80 since the pandemic began.
Seven hundred and sixty-seven of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 53 cases still active.
There are 62 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 17 in Woodstock, 10 in Tillsonburg, nine in St. Thomas, six in Zorra, four in Aylmer, West Elgin and Norwich, two in Bayham, Central Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim and one each in SW Oxford and Ingersoll.
Fourteen patients and five staff at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital have tested positive.
Five individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 33.3 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Forty of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 10 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,623.
Through May 15 – the latest data available from the health unit – 86,807 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 83,897 of those having received their first dose.
There are 29.3 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 85.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 23.1 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 53.4 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 148 tests on Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 16 last Friday.
