Thanks to the assistance of an alert citizen and Police Service Dog Axle, 3 people were arrested Sunday in St. Thomas after they were spotted driving a stolen truck.
St. Thomas Police say 2 men and a woman were observed by an alert citizen in London, driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from the laneway of a home on Sterling Crescent Saturday night.
It is reported that the vehicle entered the city at a high rate of speed trying to evade police, when it collided with a hydro pole at the corner of St. George and New Streets.
All 3 occupants fled the collision on foot, but witness descriptions assisted in the search, with the female being located a short distance away. The male passenger was arrested just north of the city riding a bicycle that had been stolen from the yard of a home in Lynhurst.
The driver was located a couple of hours later hiding in the gully behind New Street thanks to a track by PSD Axle and his handler PC Sean James.
As a result, 35 year old Kenda-Rae Blackman of St. Thomas, 21 year old Devon Wayne Albert of London and 36 year old James Edward Carroll have been charged.
Kenda-Rae Blackman of St. Thomas was charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 and Fail to Report Collision. She was transported to the Colin McGregor Justice Building for processing and later released on an Undertaking with a court date.
Devon Wayne Albert of London was charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 and Fail to Report Collision. He was also processed at the Colin McGregor Justice Building and later released on an Undertaking with court date.
The driver, James Edward Carroll of St. Thomas was charged with Dangerous Operation, Flight from Police, Drive While Prohibited, Drive While Under Suspension, Possession of Stolen Property, Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision and Breach of Probation.
He was held in custody for a court appearance. Police discovered Carroll was also wanted on three outstanding warrants that were executed once he was in custody.
Two separate bench warrants had been issued after he failed to appear at his scheduled court date to answer to drug related charges. The third warrant was issued after police had grounds to charge him with Breach of Release Conditions, Drive While Prohibited and Theft Under $5000 following an investigation back in May.
