A late summer tradition has fallen victim to the coronavirus for a second straight year. This September no rides will twist and turn at Western Fair, no exhibits set up in the buildings and no live music to linger in the evening air.
CEO Reg Ash called it a difficult but necessary decision given the uncertainty around hosting large gatherings. However he added, watch for some surprises to be announced in the coming weeks.
And, the spirit of the fair will be kept alive this year with a variety of online and in-person events planned.
This year’s Creative Arts competition is underway online with great prizes up for grabs. And the annual Rise 2 Fame youth talent competition, showcasing the best in up-and-coming performers from across the province, has also been launched online.
Registration will soon open up for virtual school tours – the ultimate agriculture resource library. Teachers and home schoolers can register until early September.
Park It at the Market, the annual summer night-market in The District, will take on a fair theme all through September, providing in-person activities focussed on some of the traditional fair elements like local music, food and entertainment.
And, the popular Fair Food Boxes are back offering savoury treats to wind down the summer.
