An amateur homebuilt aircraft made a crash landing in Dutton Dunwich Thursday evening, resulting in the pilot being airlifted to hospital.
The Elgin County OPP, along with Dutton Dunwich Fire and EMS responded to a report of a downed single engine aircraft at approximately 6:15 p.m. in the area of Leitch Street.
Police report that the aircraft, a Rutan, Long-EZ, Single engine piston, amateur homebuilt aircraft, had gone down short of a grass landing strip and collided with the foundation of a home that was in the process of being built in a new subdivision.
The lone occupant, a 67 year old Dutton resident was extricated from the plane and airlifted to hospital with serious life-altering injuries.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been contacted and is now the lead agency in this case.
