London has been named the host of the 2024 Ontario Summer Games.
Sports Minister Lisa MacLeod made the announcement Tuesday morning and says the Ontario government will give London a hosting grant of up to one-million-dollars.
This grant will be used to offset operational costs, such as accommodating, feeding and transporting athletes and other participants at the games.
The 2020 games were originally scheduled to take place in London and were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will not proceed.
London Mayor Mayor Holder said “We are very excited to welcome the Ontario Summer Games back to London in 2024.” “While unfortunate to all those who had worked so hard to prepare for the 2021 Games, this is the best decision for the safety of all involved. Thank you to the Province of Ontario for the opportunity to host this event once again, and I have no doubt that London will put on an extraordinary experience in 2024.”
Mississauga is set to host the 2022 edition of the games from July 21-24.
The Ontario Summer Games is the province’s largest multi-sport event for athletes ages 12-18 and is hosted every two years with more than 3,000 athletes from across the province competing.
