The province this morning is reporting 153 new COVID-19 cases with seven deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting two new cases with none resolved. There were no new cases in St. Thomas or Elgin county and one death reported, an Oxford County man in his 80s.
The death total is now 84 since the pandemic began.
There are 15 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with six in Bayham, three in East Zorra-Tavistock, two in Woodstock, and one each in St. Thomas, Aylmer, West Elgin and Zorra.
A total of 826 cases have been variants of concern with 23 confirmed cases of the Delta variant.
There are no active institutional cases.
There is one individual in hospital at this time, who is not in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.6 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Twelve of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, none of those under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases remains at 3,812.
The health unit advises 136,763 individuals in the health unit’s coverage area have had at least one dose of vaccine by SWPH or 64.2 per cent of residents.
There are 7.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 10.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 2.6 cases per 100,000 population and 13.3 per 100,000 population in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 71 tests on Monday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did eight on Monday.
