Southwestern Ontario may soon be on track for enhanced passenger rail service. Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra, announced in London this morning (Wednesday) the federal government is exploring opportunities for improvements.
This comes on the heels of the announcement earlier this month of a High Frequency Rail line in the Toronto-Quebec City corridor.
“There is a strong appetite for enhanced passenger rail services in Southwestern Ontario,” observed Alghabra.
“Improvements to passenger rail service in this region would provide better options for travellers while also enabling the economic growth of communities along the rail network.”
“High frequency rail has the potential to transform the way we move in our own region and beyond,” added London West MP Kate Young.
Currently, there are three weekday departures from London to Toronto.
A related announcement is to be made tomorrow in Windsor.
