A Pride flag was raised at St. Thomas City Hall this morning to help kick off a week of events taking place during Elgin County Pride.
Mayor Joe Preston made it official with his proclamation Monday, saying August 9-15, 2021 will be known as Elgin County Pride week.
The City of St. Thomas will of course be lighting the famous Jumbo Memorial rainbow this week to celebrate, but Mayor Preston notes the addition of a rainbow crosswalk just outside of City Hall.
He says it’s something they do in other communities and when asked if it was possible here, Preston says they made it happen.
Preston adds that it is always important that we celebrate all members of the St. Thomas Community.
Pride events and programs will continue throughout the week including another flag raising ceremony, taking place at the Elgin County Museum, Virtual Drag Storytime, Rainbow Speaker Panel, Digital Drag Queen Bitchy Bingo, a Live Spiritual Celebration in Pinafore Park and so much more
