The province this morning is reporting 781 new COVID-19 cases with 17 deaths, with 634 of those new cases in individuals not fully vaccinated or vaccination status unknown.
Southwestern Public Health is reporting six new cases, with one resolved.
The death total remains at 84 since the pandemic began.
There are now 28 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 10 in St. Thomas, four in Woodstock, three in Aylmer and Ingersoll, two in SW Oxford, Tillsonburg and Zorra and a single case each in Bayham and Southwold.
A total of 979 cases have been variants of concern with 155 confirmed cases of the Delta variant.
There are no active institutional cases.
There are three individuals hospitalized at this time, one in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.4 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Twenty-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, with eight of those under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,954.
A total of 135,391 residents in the region have been fully immunized or 63.6 per cent.
There are 13.2 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 45.7 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 25.7 cases per 100,000 population and 46.3 cases per 100,000 population for Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 149 tests on Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 17 on Wednesday.
