Harvest Hands, a nonprofit food distribution bank dedicated to ‘rescuing’ food in the region to help agencies and families throughout Southwestern Ontario, has found a new home in the Railway City.
myFM had the opportunity to chat with Executive Director and Founder Jim Collins, who told us all about the organization that is funded entirely by donations and volunteer-driven.
Collins explains why this partnership they have started by ‘rescuing” food, benefits everyone involved.
Harvest Hands, which has been in operation for roughly 2 years now, began simply with Collins making connections with local growers and producers.
Those 14 counties, including right here in St. Thomas, which is now home to there new facility located at 122 Edward Street.
To celebrate the opening of their new location, Harvest Hands will be holding an open house this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., explains Collins.
Visitors are encouraged to drop off one bag of non-perishable food supplies if attending.
Because all food at Harvest Hands is donated, it allows them spend their dollars elsewhere.
And none of it would be possible without the help and dedication of all their volunteers.
