Paying it forward never had more impact than through the United Way Elgin Middlesex 3M Harvest Lunch which wrapped up this past Friday. It was also the launch of the United Way Campaign for 2021.
Every $10 ticket purchased bought a meal for a member of the community in need. And ultimately, supports the local United Way, advises Heather Jackson.
The pay-it-forward campaign was unveiled last year and Jackson calls it a fitting start to this year’s campaign at a time when the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The success of the pay-if-forward concept raises the question of whether to continue with it next year or, assuming the pandemic restrictions have been lifted, return to the traditional gathering in person for lunch. It all comes down to what is the best way to serve our community, says Heather Jackson.
As we begin to ease out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson stresses the need is greater than ever to make sure no one is left behind.
This year, the United Way is mobilizing the community to fight increasing poverty, inequity, mental illness and intimate partner violence.
