On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, schools across the Thames Valley are participating in a variety of creative ways.
At John Wise Public School in St. Thomas, students will start the day with a reflective healing walk followed by outdoor activities such as smudging and meditation, sketching inspired by Indigenous art, and an orange shirt clothesline.
The school has developed programming where students of all ages are able to learn, reflect and become more sensitive to the injustices that members of the Indigenous community have endured, notes principal Ryan Ewaskiw.
All Thames Valley schools are spending the entire week honouring the survivors of residential schools and those who did not make it back home.
