It’s a case of back-to-back losses by identical scores for the St. Thomas Stars. In this case the Chatham Maroons fired home a trio of third period goals to double up the Stars 6-3 Friday evening at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
The Stars fell behind early although they briefly knotted the game at 2-2 in the second period but a run of three goals by the visitors kept St. Thomas at bay.
Newly signed Oliver Bonk – selected 26th overall by the London Knights in the 2021 OHL Priority Draft – opened the scoring for the Stars and Nick Houben knotted the game at 2-2 five minutes into the middle frame.
Ben MacRobbie’s marker late in the game rounded out the St. Thomas scoring.
Tyler Roberts was in net for St. Thomas and faced 45 shots.
Cameron Welch led the Chatham attack with a pair of goals including an empty-netter.
The Stars remain in eighth place in the standings with two points in four games and they sit one point ahead of last place Komoka who have a pair of games in hand.
St. Thomas is off now until next Friday when they host the LaSalle Vipers at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
