For the first time since June, a COVID-19 case is being reported in a long-term care facility in the Southwestern Public Health region.
Elgin county reported Friday afternoon one resident at Elgin Manor has tested positive. The resident is now in isolation and there are no other cases reported among staff or residents.
County staff are working closely with the health unit on outbreak management and to identify close contacts of the resident. Residents, staff and community members who are determined to be at risk are being contacted to prevent further spread of illness in the home or in the community.
“We want families of our residents to know that we are doing everything in our power to stop the spread of the virus within Elgin Manor,” advised Warden Tom Marks in a release.
With the single positive case, Elgin Manor is considered to be in suspect outbreak.
