It is Fire Prevention Week and the St. Thomas Fire Department want to make sure everyone in the community is prepared in the event of a fire.
The department spent the weekend hosting some community events, including their first “Chalk It Up for Fire Safety” event.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun explains the premise behind this years theme.
Destun says this week is the perfect opportunity for families to practice or develop a home escape plan.
She adds that the department will be using social media this week to continue to share important fire prevention tips and messaging.
