Health Minister Christine Elliot says youths can use copies of passports, birth certificates and other ID’s under the province’s new proof of COVID-19 vaccination system.
Those 12 and older need to show accepted forms of ID as well as proof of vaccination to access non-essential businesses and services such as gyms and restaurants.
Elliot says a photocopy or digital version of an identification document is not generally acceptable, but is permitted for youth under 18.
Restaurants Canada says youths don’t usually carry around birth certificates or passports and staff have been forced to use discretion when enforcing the proof of vaccination system for younger people.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says it’s also aware of the problem.
