The Kings cruised into the third period Saturday night in Komoka with a comfortable 5-2 cushion over the Stars and then had to hold off a furious St. Thomas comeback effort to escape with a 7-5 home win.
The Stars fired home a trio of goals in a five-minute span late in the final frame to pull within a goal of the Kings only to have Colin Holmes bury an empty-netter with 29 seconds remaining to shut down St. Thomas.
It was a chippy affair with 40 minutes in penalties called with the Kings nailed on a dozen minor infractions.
The Stars badly outshot Komoka 54-37, including 18-11 in the final 20 minutes. Ajax native Tyler Roberts was in net for St. Thomas.
Tristen Roberts netted a pair for St. Thomas, giving him three on the year while Ben MacRobbie also notched his third and Paterson MacNair and Dylan Watson, with his first of the campaign, rounded out the scoring.
MacRobbie leads the team in scoring with eight points in five games.
Their three-game losing skid in the early going leaves St. Thomas mired in the cellar in the GOJHL Western Conference.
