It’s a wide-held belief misfortune comes in threes.
Well, that certainly was the case Thursday evening in Leamington for the St. Thomas Stars.
Three goals in under three minutes to open the third period powered the Flyers to a 4-2 win over St. Thomas.
The Stars jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the middle frame on Maddox Amaral’s seventh goal of the season.
The lead, however, was short lived as the Flyers pulled even before the buzzer to end the second period.
The fired-up Flyers then blitzed the Stars to open the final period with a pair of Andrew Utoro goals just 17 seconds apart and Sylvain Lessard’s first tally of the season, all before the four-minute mark to pull away from St. Thomas.
Oliver Bonk found the back of the net with under six minutes to play but it was too little, too late for St. Thomas.
Tyler Roberts was in net for the loss, facing 38 shots.
The Stars managed 37 shots on Leamington netminder Ryan Polidori, who picked up his fifth win in six games and sports a sparkling 2.17 GAA.
The win lifts the Flyers into third place in the GOJHL, while St. Thomas is mired in the basement, two points behind eighth-place Sarnia.
The two teams go at it again Friday evening at the Joe Thornton Community Centre in a 7:30 start.
