It took 40 minutes to get warmed up, but the St. Thomas Stars were firing on all cylinders in the third period Friday night at the Joe Thornton Community Centre en route to an impressive 5-2 win over the Sarnia Legionnaires.
Led by a pair of goals from Jack Weber in less that three minutes of the final frame, the Stars broke open a tight 2-2 encounter to pull even with Sarnia in the standings.
For Weber, it gives him five goals on the season, with Ben MacRobbie also netting his fifth to close out the scoring.
Maddox Amaral potted his eighth of the campaign in the first period and St. Thomas native Dylan Watson picked up his first goal in a Stars’ uniform to give the home side a 2-1 lead going into the third period.
Tanner Dietz, Tristen Roberts and Tyler Alexander each contributed a pair of helpers as the Stars outshot Sarnia 51-41, including 24-13 in the middle frame.
Tyler Roberts picked up his first win in net for St. Thomas.
The Stars and Sarnia are now tied with six points each in the GOJHL Western Conference standings, with St. Thomas having a couple of games in hand.
They are back in action Saturday afternoon when they face the fourth-place Maroons in Chatham.
The Maroons defeated Sarnia 3-1 Thursday night.
Puck drop tomorrow in Chatham is 2 p.m. and myFM will have all the action with Chris Soares.
