The St. Thomas Stars are still having difficulty putting together a full 60 minutes of hockey. But tonight in LaSalle, 20 minutes proved more than enough, thank you.
In fact it took the Stars just 10 minutes in the final frame to evaporate a 4-1 Vipers’ lead and hand St. Thomas their third straight win in less than a week.
Forget the opening 40 minutes. LaSalle gave every indication they were going to run the Stars back up the highway.
The only bright spot was Ben MacRobbie’s sixth goal of the season on a powerplay.
Whatever words of wisdom the coaching staff imparted during the second intermission had an instant impact.
Goals from Maddox Amaral, Tristen Roberts, Oliver Bonk and Paterson MacNair had the Vipers cowering in a corner of the Vollmer Culture Recreation Complex.
For Amaral it was his ninth of the campaign. He’s notched at least one point in all but four of the Stars’ 13 games so far. Stratford native Nick Houben pick up a pair of assists.
Tyler Roberts kicked aside 22 of 26 shots to earn the win.
The Stars solidify their hold on seventh place in the Western Conference standings and sit two points behind St. Marys.
St. Thomas returns to action Friday when they play host to Komoka in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
