The city is revisiting the idea of adding a new Aquatic/Community Centre to St. Thomas, and in doing so, have launched an online survey for residents.
The 5 minute survey, available on the city’s website will allow council to create a physical concept plan and determine the location for a new community and aquatic centre in order to be prepared for future funding opportunities.
In November of 2019, city council voted against proceeding to apply for funding to support a new community centre, noting there were to many unknowns at the time and if funding were awarded, it would only cover roughly 75% of the building cost.
In the survey released on Wednesday, the city notes that a new community centre could cost up to $25 million, but would depend on the amenities added.
Questions such as what amenities should be included, if council should move forward with plans if external municipal funding isn’t available or to proceed only if funding can be secured, can all be found in the survey.
