For 42 years it has been a Christmas tradition. A much-needed voluntary undertaking because Christmas should be a memorable time of year. That’s why in 1980 Christmas Care was launched to assist lower-income individuals and families with food and gift hampers to make Christmas Day complete. This year’s campaign launched Friday at the Elgin Centre where St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston paid tribute to the scores of volunteers who, every year, bring a little joy to the season.
Paying tribute to the volunteers who ensure each year the program meets the demand, MPP Jeff Yurek helped launch the 42nd edition of the Christmas Care initiative.
Christmas Care again this year is housed in the former Zellers store at the Elgin Centre. Registration opens Monday at 10 a.m. and runs until Dec. 10, with the exception of Remembrance Day. You can drop by weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to register for your food and toy hamper. COVID-19 protocols are in place.
