With Remembrance Day ceremonies now concluded and as poppies begin to disappear from lapels, myFM wanted to take a look at just how important our local Legions are.
We sat down with Tony Bendel, 1st Vice President of Lord Elgin Branch #41 in St. Thomas to discuss how the community can support the Legion and local veterans, all year long.
Bendel says a big one is by becoming a member.
He says that when these Legions are forced to close their doors, it has a direct ripple effect into the community.
Locally, quite a big ripple would be seen if Lord Elgin Branch #41 was forced to close as they are currently home to the St. Thomas Elgin Foodbank.
Bendel notes that this just goes to show that there is so much that goes on behind the scenes at the Legion, that many people may not even realize.
He adds that they are always looking for new people to add some fresh ideas to the conversation.
If becoming a member isn’t for you, supporting Lord Elgin Branch #41 in other ways is also possible. Make a donation to show your support or follow along on their Facebook Page to stay up to date on current and upcoming fundraisers.
