To help curb the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of patients and staff, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital has officially implement a mandatory vaccination policy for essential caregivers.
The mandate, which came into effect as of Monday, November 15th will serve to protect the health care workforce and enhance the safety of all those who work in and visit STEGH notes Hospital President and CEO Karen Davies.
As the hospital currently sits at capacity due to the increase in local COVID-19 cases, she says that the number one concern right now is the protection for everyone at the hospital.
Davies does add that there are some exceptions to the vaccination mandate.
At this time, only those deemed as an essential caregiver can visit or accompany a patient at STEGH.
