Oh so close.
The St. Thomas Stars were 58 seconds away from an upset win Saturday night in Komoka only to have Carter McLlwain hand the Kings a 2-1 win in OT.
After Tyler Alexander’s powerplay goal at 11:47 of the opening period gave them a 1-0 lead, the Stars held Komoka at bay into the final minute of regulation time.
And then is was McLlwain’s time to put on a show with the tying goal at 19:02 of the third period and then bury the winner 44 seconds into overtime.
St. Thomas did gain a valuable point in the standings and move a point ahead of eighth-place Strathroy who face the Kings this afternoon.
The Stars are back in action Thursday in Leamington. You can catch all the action on myFM beginning at 7 p.m. with Chris Soares.
