Courtesy of a $5,000 donation from Enbridge Gas, Central Elgin Fire Rescue is getting a boost to its firefighter training program.
Fire Chief Ray Ormerod explains the money will be used to purchase training materials through the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.
The council’s Safe Community Project Assist supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in communities where Enbridge operates.
Ormerod added the funds will help in ensuring not only the safety of firefighters, but also the safety of residents by being able to operate in the most efficient and effective manner during emergencies.
Central Elgin has four fire stations and a water rescue marine program. The stations are supported by approximately 100 volunteer firefighters, 25 lifeguards, a fire coordinator and a chief.
The Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council chaired by the Ontario Fire Marshal, promotes fire prevention and public education through sponsorships and partnerships with various groups and individuals with an interest in public safety.
