Courtesy of a donation from Ken McEwen of Aylmer, Springwater Conservation Area now has a third pavilion available for day-use rental.
Named Audrey’s Pavilion, in honour of McEwen’s mother, it was officially opened last Thursday.
Catfish Creek Conservation Authority acting general manager Dusty Underhill says McEwen approached him almost two years ago with a proposition.
Underhill adds the pavilion is ideal for weddings, picnics and family reunions.
McEwen’s deep appreciation for nature and the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority in particular, was the driving force behind his push to construct a new pavilion at Springwater.
CCCA board chairman Rick Cerna explained the pavilion is a lasting tribute to McEwen’s parents.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony, McEwen spoke of his parents’ love of nature and especially walks through Springwater.
The pavilion provides additional day-use space for visitors.
McEwen cautioned on the need to avoid commercializing Springwater Conservation Area.
Springwater is managed by Catfish Creek Conservation Authority which relies on donations and self-generated revenue to protect and enhance the local environment.
