Christmas is just around the corner, and for many, that could mean travelling and possibly spending a few nights away from home.
Because of that, the OPP want to make sure you have a plan in place to make your home look lived in to deter the chance of a break in.
Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk says an empty home is a great target to thieves.
Sanchuk says this one may be a given, but make sure your home is properly locked up before you leave.
He says have a neighbour or friend grab your mail, shovel your driveway, and even flick on your lights occasionally in order to give the home a lived in look.
Sanchuk adds it’s important that you do not announce you’ll be gone on social media, as you never know who might end up seeing that message.
