After a significant COVID-19 outbreak at a city homeless shelter last week, a vacant school was transformed into an isolation centre, literally overnight.
The former Wellington Street Public School has housed approximately 10 individuals, with the city and other community and healthcare agencies attending to their basic needs.
City manager Wendell Graves called it “a monumental effort.”
Graves updated city council at Monday’s meeting and indicated all of the individuals likely will be discharged before Christmas
He added the aim is to keep the resources at the isolation centre on standby for several weeks in case there is another outbreak and the city also has access to a limited number of motel rooms available if needed.
