A St. Thomas woman is out over $80,000 after falling victim to a romance scam.
Last spring she accepted a random friend request on Facebook from a man supposedly living in Europe. The two began to regularly message back and forth with the woman certain he was going to come and live with her in Canada.
Over a period of several months she transferred money to him to pay his expenses and after each transfer the scammer would come up with a new excuse to delay meeting in person.
St. Thomas Police advise you visit antifraudcentre.ca for more information on such scams.
