In an update Sunday afternoon, Elgin county is advising the number of COVID-19 positive cases amongst residents has risen to eight. Seven of the residents are in the original outbreak area at the Malahide facility.
These residents are isolating at this time. Essential caregivers visiting the affected areas at the home must wear a mask, gown, gloves and protective eyewear.
And it is recommended essential caregivers visiting residents in isolation wear an N95 mask. Visits to all resident home areas are restricted to one essential caregiver visitor at a time.
In addition:
Essential caregiver visitors are encouraged to consider planning a visit during a mealtime to provide additional mealtime support to a loved one. Mealtimes are as follows:
o Breakfast – 8 – 9 a.m.
o Lunch 12- 1 p.m.
o Supper – 5 – 6 p.m.
• An essential caregiver may not visit any other resident or Home for 14-days after visiting a resident who is self-isolating or symptomatic, or after visiting a Home that is in suspect or declared outbreak.
For the remainder of the current Terrace Lodge outbreak, updates will be provided as follows:
• Substitute decision makers will be contacted directly for any positive swab results and/or change in resident status
• Updates regarding the number of positive resident and staff cases and changes to visiting/absence guidelines will be communicated via email to the person(s) on the email list; and, posted on the County of Elgin Homes website
