A joint media briefing between Southwestern Public Health and area hospitals on Wednesday brought about some unsettling information.
While dealing with an increasing COVID-19 patient caseload, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is also faced with dozens of employees off the job due to the coronavirus.
Hospital president and CEO Karen Davies advised as of Wednesday, close to 80 staff members were not able to report for work.
During the update Wednesday, Davies indicated they currently have 22 COVID patients in the hospital with five of those in ICU.
During the same briefing, the region’s chief medical officer of health expressed concern that people are walking out of their booster appointments because they can’t get the Pfizer vaccine.
Dr. Joyce Lock discourages this, especially for older individuals.
She added, studies indicate immunity shoots back up after a booster and it doesn’t matter which brand you get.
