Each year, January is recognized as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to challenge the stigma associated with the disease.
Cathy Barrick, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario, explains this year’s theme.
Barrick adds the organization should be one of your first points of connection if you have Alzheimer’s in your life. An important consideration is the signs to look for when we suspect someone has the disease.
Barrick, explains it’s a change in someone’s normal day-to-day functioning.
She also notes the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia.
With so many people in the community impacted by the disease, Barrick explains how you can get involved in a fundraising event this month along with family and friends.
Barrick adds the funds raised go to support local programs and services for people living with dementia.
