He didn’t put the puck in the net nor did he stonewall opposing players, however for close to three decades, Tommy Jones played a critical role in the fortunes of the Jr. B St. Thomas Stars.
The long-time trainer died Sunday and team owner Joe Daniels says Jones loved the club and put in long hours to make sure every little detail was taken care of for the players.
Jones signed on as trainer for the Stars back in the early 90s and remained with the club until the 2020-21 season.
He will be remembered for his dedication to the club and attention paid to the many players who donned a Stars’ uniform. And, Daniels stresses, of course, his smile.
It certainly wasn’t about the money and, for road games, it involved putting in long days, quite often into the early hours of the following day.
Daniels has nothing but praise for Jones noting, “Tommy saw many players and coaches come and go through the Stars’ organization, and was always an integral part of our hockey club.”
