Thanks to Jackson Phillips’ first goal in a St. Thomas uniform and two-goal performances from Oliver Bonk and Mathieu Paris, the Stars returned from a lengthy hiatus with a 5-2 win Friday night over Komoka at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
Phillips came over to the Stars in early January in a trade that sent Tanner Dietz and Ben MacRobbie to the Listowel Cyclones.
Phillips had 7 goals and 5 assists in 22 games this year with Listowel. MacRobbie had 11 goals and a similar number of assists while with the Stars and Dietz had 5 goals and 22 assists.
Bonk’s two goals came on the powerplay while Paris closed out the scoring with an empty-netter in the final minute of the game.
Owen Willmore picked up the win, the Stars first this season against the Kings who prevailed in the first three outings.
The win also snapped a three-game St. Thomas losing skid dating back to Dec. 12 and pushes them up into seventh place in the GOJHL Western Conference, a point ahead of Strathroy.
The Stars are back in action Sunday afternoon when they face the Maroons in Chatham. myFM will have all of the action with Chris Soares starting at 3:20.
