The St. Thomas Stars have yet to beat the Lincolns this season in four encounters but they came oh, so close Monday afternoon in St. Marys.
They did leave town with a point after a hard-fought 4-3 OT loss in a physical matchup that saw 50 minutes in penalties dished out.
St. Thomas twice built one-goal leads and then had to come from behind to tie it up early in the third period, sending the game into OT.
Jack Weber opened the scoring for St. Thomas midway through the opening period only to have Spencer Hazell pull the Lincs even with less than three minutes to play in the period.
In the first minute of the second period, Mathieu Paris restored the Stars’ lead but before the second intermission, Cole Schnittker and Jordan Daer
propelled St. Marys into their first lead of the game.
Tyler Alexander with his seventh marker of the year three minutes into the third period forced the OT.
Thomas Harbour sealed the St. Marys victory 90 seconds into extra time.
After going 4-for-5 against Strathroy on Friday, the Stars’ powerplay was 0-for-4 in St. Marys.
The Lincolns were no better, going scoreless in five attempts.
Owen Willmore was in net for St. Thomas, facing 43 shots.
The point lifts St. Thomas one point ahead of the eighth-place Strathroy Rockets in the GOJHL Western Conference.
The Stars are off until Friday when they host the third-place Leamington Flyers in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
