For five decades, the Maple Syrup Festival at Springwater Conservation Area has been a harbinger of spring.
However, for a second straight year, the uncertainty of COVID-19 restrictions and several logistical issues have forced cancellation of the popular event.
There will be limited school tours in March, something general manager Dusty Underhill calls a ‘soft start’ to the 2022 maple syrup season.
The education sessions will be limited to about 20 students each as compared to 40 students prior to the pandemic.
The “maple season” is one of the most enjoyable times around the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority office, notes Underhill, and it is also one of their favourite education programs offered.
Because of the cancellation, maple syrup products will not be available for purchase this spring.
Underhill assures, all going well, the Maple Syrup Festival will return in 2023.
