Following the announcement last week that the Ontario government would be issuing licence plate fee refunds, the OPP have reported a number of related scam attempts.
Police say they’ve received reports of a text message making its way across the province, instructing individuals to “click the link” to receive their $120 refund.
The OPP stress that Service Ontario will never send communication through text message. Police note that if you do receive this text or one with similar instructions, to not click any associated links as this is a scam.
The OPP will be using the remaining days in March to drive home this messaging as part of Fraud Awareness month.
The police force encourages everyone to stay educated and informed to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud. If you receive an unsolicited message via email or text message that requests you confirm personal information, never submit anything.
