We know we are blessed with a great hospital in St. Thomas.
But one of the world’s best?
You bet.
That’s according to Newsweek’s annual ranking of hospitals around the world.
The latest data has St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital ranked as #66 out of over 1,200 hospitals in Canada. That puts STEGH in the top five per cent in the country, advises Karen Riddell, vice-president of people and safety at the hospital.
The goal of the Newsweek study is to provide the best data-based comparison of hospital reputation and performance across countries.
What attributes will you find at a world-class hospital? Particularly in the midst of a pandemic?
According to Newsweek’s 2022 rankings of the world’s best hospitals, it means learning to adapt to new and existing challenges quickly and improvising on the fly.
That ability resulted in STEGH earning a spot on Newsweek’s list.
Riddell outlines some of the criteria involved.
Caring and compassion are critical considerations at STEGH. Riddell explains, “we are very focused on what matters.”
The Newsweek study pointed out, “what has set the world’s leading hospitals apart is their continued ability to deliver the highest-quality patient care and conduct critical medical research even as they focused on battling COVID.”
