While we may be losing an hour of sleep this coming weekend as a result of Daylight Saving Time, the benefits of more sunshine throughout the day will soon follow!
Daylight Saving Time comes into effect this Sunday (Mar 13) at 2 a.m., meaning everyone must turn their clocks forward an hour.
And as resident prepare to change their clocks, the St. Thomas Fire Department is hoping people will also use this time to check their smoke alarms.
That was Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun, who also advises when alarms should be replaced.
Destun reminds the community that they can reach out to the fire department for assistance in order to make sure their homes are properly equipped.
She notes as fire fatalities continue to rise across the province, taking the extra step to check your alarms at least twice a year could save a life.
The Chief Fire Prevention Officer also reminds residents to check in on elderly relatives, who may not be able to change batteries on their own.
