Lauren Poort owns The Succulent Shed Co! Lauren and her husband Rob moved to St Thomas from Niagara 4.5 years ago and began a new life together, starting the business in 2018. The Succulent Shed Co had humble beginnings – it all began with selling a handful of flowering perennials, herbs and veggies from the backyard to their neighbours. Fast forward to the present day: they now carry tropical plants, succulents and cacti year-round, offering over 75 varieties of perennials, shrubs, and fruit bushes from their backyard market place and at the Horton Farmer’s Market seasonally for our garden enthusiasts!
Lauren was provided with the Starter Company Plus grant in April 2021 and she is deeply grateful for the opportunities the grant provided enabling the construction of a potting shed to hold all their growing equipment! (giving Rob his garage back!)
Lauren’s favorite part of running her business is the way she is able to meet so many people in the community. She says “It is so amazing to see how much support there is in St Thomas for local small businesses. My husband and I are so thankful to live here and for the opportunities we have had to ‘grow’.”
