Take a 1930 warehouse, upgrade all the services, design the structure to maximize the harbour view and now you’ve got something exciting brewing in Port Stanley.
Literally.
The hot new destination next summer will be the Port Stanley Brewing Company. Housed in the 8,600 square foot Dominion of Canada Building, it will include an outdoor patio, indoor restaurant and event space, explains Mike Mescia of London-based Domus Developments.
Central Elgin council last month approved a $1.4 million lease-to-own agreement with Domus for the property on the west bank of Kettle Creek.
Under the agreement, there is a five-year lease at $100,000 per year with an option to purchase the waterfront property for $900,000.
Mescia says the microbrewery with restaurant will be key to redevelopment of the harbour.
Mescia advises $1 million will be required to upgrade or service water, gas and electricity services while another $1 million is needed to develop the microbrewery, restaurant and event space.
As for restaurant decor, Mescia says with the inviting view of the harbour right at the door step, how can you beat that.
A future addition will be a rooftop patio, suggests Mescia.
He explains the grand opening is tentatively scheduled for May of next year.
Domus Developments is no stranger to Port Stanley, having begun development of their condo project on Edith Cavell Blvd. 20 years ago.
