With just two games remaining on the regular-season schedule, the St. Thomas Stars will finish out the campaign in seventh place.
The Stars dropped a 4-2 decision at home Wednesday night to Chatham in a game that had no bearing on the standings as the Maroons closed out their season.
Jack Weber and Tristen Roberts with his 17th goal of the year on a powerplay accounted for the Stars’ scoring. Ryan Cooper assisted on both markers.
The Maroons’ powerplay proved ineffective, however they got goals from Dylan Glinski and Cameron Symons while playing shorthanded.
Cameron Welch and Craig Spence rounded out the Chatham scoring.
Chatham took the season series 4-2 and they closed out the season winning four of their last five games to finish third in the GOJHL Western Conference.
The Stars will play either Leamington or London in the first round of the playoffs. The Flyers currently hold down first place, three points ahead of the Nationals who have three games remaining to play, one more than Leamington.
The two teams face each other Friday at Memorial Arena here in St. Thomas.
The Stars are back in action Friday night when they travel to St. Marys to face the Lincolns. myFM will have all the action with Chris Soares beginning at 7:20.
