The St. Thomas Stars opened and closed the scoring Friday night in St. Marys, trouble is the Lincolns sandwiched seven goals in between for a 7-3 victory to close out their regular season.
Maddox Amaral gave the Stars a 1-0 lead less than a minute after the opening faceoff but in the minute following, Myles Baker and Thomas Harbour lifted the Lincs into the lead for good.
Adrian Stubberfield closed out the first-period scoring.
A pair of goals from Kyle Morey and singles from Matt Prendergast – his first for St. Marys – and Noah Vandenbrink ran the score up to 7-1 with 10 minutes to play.
For Belmont’s Vandenbrink it was his 20th of the campaign. A quarter of those have come at the expense of the Stars.
Connor Snedden and Tristen Roberts with a powerplay effort rounded out the goal production for St. Thomas.
Owen Willmore was in net for the loss.
The game had no impact on the standings with the Stars finishing seventh in the GOJHL Western Conference.
They still do not know their opponent in the first round of the playoffs as second-place London thumped league-leading Leamington 6-1 Friday night. The Nats trail Leamington – who are finished regular season play – by three points with games tonight in Komoka and Sunday afternoon in LaSalle.
The Stars end their campaign at home Sunday night against Sarnia. Game time is 7:30 at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
