Special Olympic athletes are returning to action after a two-year pause and St. Thomas is the first venue to welcome them back.
This Saturday, the Hometown Games come to St. Joseph’s High School where the St. Thomas Swish face London Basketball in a three-game series.
Jeff Charlesworth, Special Olympics Ontario program consultant explains the return to competition will feature multi-sport tournaments across the province in the coming weeks.
To say the kids are pumped up for this would be an understatement.
Charlesworth, says the athletes have been waiting in anticipation of this day, the kick-off to the Hometown Games across the province.
While St. Thomas is the first venue for the Hometown Games, the format incorporating other sports will be held in other centres.
The public is invited to attend this Saturday, with the basketball games running at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. No charge for admission.
